Dell Inspiron 9 Netbook
Dell Inspiron 9
My first thoughts on the netbooks were pretty high I only could come up with a few problems I expected to encounter when testing out this netbook.
-screen with high resolution
-small of keys
The positive perks I thought would come with a netbook.
-SSD
-Portable
-great battery life
-fast startup time
-light weight
On first startup the mini 9 did seem to start up fast but when compared to my Lenovo R61(Pen duel core,2gbram,7200rpm120gbhdd) the mini9 only beat it out by 10 seconds (mini9 1:14 Lenovo R61 1:24)which is way slower on the startup then I expected, by a lot! Mini 9 boots form a mini pci express Solid State Drive( Reference)the storage option I choose was the 8gb version which after the XP ULCPC installed and all added junk from dell removed you have about 2.85gb of free space which isn’t bad but expect to install only what you need and store files on a flash drive or SD card both are cheap. The mini 9 comes with a option of 512 mb or 1024mb of memory, even tho it is xp and it can run on 512mb If given the option always go for 1024mb its not much more expensive and you will not regret it in the long run! This along with all netbooks come with a Intel Atom 174 clocked at 1.6GHz/533Mhz and this is the only option since AMD isn’t getting involved in the netbook arena. The mini 9’s battery life isn’t to bad, the doc’s state about 3 hours from the 4 cell battery, If using the sleep and hibernating options in xp, you can keep this netbook going all day with moderate use. Bluetooth is optional on the mini 9, I selected it because with most cell phones/smartphones with it you can transfer files and sync with out using usb, and again its not much to add on and you will not regret it later on. On the flip side the mini 9 has one door on the bottom with three sections in it one memory slot, 1x pcie mini slot and wireless controller and a WWAN spot for and internal air card which I was given no option , I would have selected it to if it was for Verizon. The mini 9’s case is nicely designed with the screen tilting from the keyboard instead of being flush like most notebooks. Ports on the mini 9 are right on, we get 3x USB ports with 1 VGA port, rj-45 and headphone and mic, most important one is the SD/MS.MMC with flash prices down you can buy a SD card and use as storage for your mini 9. Accessories that come with the mini 9 such as the power adapter doesn’t have a power brick but has all it needs in the power plug saving space. I will be posting some pics and a video soon.
